Short Duration Projects

CalNEXT is looking for Idea Submissions and Project Submissions for short turnaround projects to support the 2024 portfolio. The deadline to submit is November 30, 2023. These submissions may align with any of the TPM Areas: HVAC, Lighting, Plug Loads & Appliances, Process Loads, Water Heating, and Whole Buildings.

Opportunity

This is a general search to build a strong portfolio based on a wide range of technologies and the prospect of completed project technology transfer. Each year the program seeks to have a balanced portfolio of projects, including a balance between longer-term and shorter-term projects. As we look ahead to 2024, the team is seeking shorter-term projects. Short-term projects have a duration of approximately 6 months and are often intended to address immediate portfolio needs but may also encompass work like a market study. These immediate needs most commonly take the form of modifications to the California Electronic Technical Reference Manual (eTRM) to capture energy savings opportunities in California’s emerging technology market. This can take the form of modifying an existing measure package, generating new offerings to add to an existing measure package, or creating a new measure package.

Considerations

Short duration means the project can be started and completed in 2024. Budgets should be aligned with the level of effort and will not be a good candidate if they are over $200,000. Consider measures in the eTRM and ensure that your project aligns with the TPMs that are posted on the CalNEXT website. If the project can support a specific energy efficiency program, please include that information in your submission.
