The CalNEXT Electrification Enablement via Load Balancing Solutions Focus Pilot is designed to help residents electrify their equipment without requiring costly upgrades to existing electrical panel and service. Residents can receive up to  $14,0001 for the purchase and installation of new electric appliances or equipment and controls. To get started, take the enrollment survey—eligible respondents will receive a $35 gift card!

Who is eligible for the $35 gift card?

  • Residents of single-family homes or townhomes with a garage and an EV charger who complete the enrollment survey.

Who is eligible for the stipend of up to $14,000?

  • Residents of single-family homes or townhomes located in PG&E, SCE or SDG&E service territory, with a garage and at least one EV charger already installed.
  • Those who complete a qualifying installation project that includes replacing at least one gas-fired appliance located in the garage—such as a water heater or clothes dryer—with a new high-efficiency electric model.

No. Available funds are limited and will be awarded to eligible customers on a first-come, first-served basis.

Equipment is eligible for partial reimbursement upon completion of post-installation monitoring and receipt of the contractor’s final invoice for equipment and labor costs (about 3-4 months). The remaining amount will be reimbursed after the completion of the post monitoring data collection period and participation in the program survey. The full process should take about 12 months.

Step-by-step process
  1. Submit nomination information. Participants must share information about their existing system(s) and contact information through the enrollment survey to be considered for the pilot. If you are interested in participating, please email [email protected] to receive a private link to the survey.
  2. Get selected as a participant. Survey responses will be reviewed and projects will be selected based on the eligibility requirements.
  3. Sign site participation agreement. An agreement will be sent via DocuSign if/when your project has been selected.
  4. Purchase and install new equipment. Once you’ve been selected as a participant and you have selected the electric appliance and or controls to purchase, the CalNEXT team will review and provide final approval. Once you receive final approval, you can work with a qualified contractor to purchase and install the new equipment.
  5. Allow for CalNEXT monitoring of your new equipment. The CalNEXT monitoring team will install the monitoring equipment. It will remain on the main electric panel and the new electric appliance for at least four weeks before the team comes back to remove the monitoring equipment.
  6. Submit for reimbursement. Equipment is eligible for partial reimbursement upon completion of post-installation monitoring and receipt of the contractor’s final invoice for equipment and labor costs. The remaining amount will be reimbursed after the completion of post-install data collection period and participation in the final program survey.

100 percent of equipment purchase and installation labor are eligible up to $14,000.

The typical project costs could vary between $2,500 – $14,000. The customer will be responsible for any additional costs.

You are required to use one of the many qualified contractors for electrical upgrades. A list of TECH-qualified contractors in your area will be provided to you by the research team.
